The Facts

First of all, an emulator is a program that lets a computer emulate a video game console, either to allow users to play older video games on personal computers, or to translate games into another format for use on a different console.

Because certain video games are designed to run on only one system, engineering minds employed the use of emulation to bring their favorite games to life on another system, or on their personal computer.

What started as only Atari emulation expanded and soon emulators started popping up for every game system available, with finally the existence of the PSP emulator.  As computers advance, and both game and emulator developers enhance their skill, the length of time between a release of a game or console and the copied “ROM” or “emulator” is shrinking.
